When we were developing MelanOxi, we discovered that pulse oximeters often overestimate oxygen levels on people with darker skin tones. The device flashes red and infrared light through the finger and calculates how much light is absorbed to determine oxygen levels. These devices have been historically tested on people with lighter skin tones, failing to take into account that melanin absorbs more light. With the help of Lori-Ann Archer, we developed MelanOxi in order to ensure equal access to accurate medical data for everyone.
